Xiaomi is one of the smartphone manufacturers that continuously launch smartphones back to back. The ratio is so rapid that it doesn’t allow the user to think which phone is best for him or her. Every single month the company has something to launch.
Here one device is ready to launch and its another upcoming device start making rumours. Currently, Xiaomi’s main focus is on MIUI packed smartphones and last year company introduced a line of smartphone especially for users who love their OS in the purest form.
Today we will give you a full in-depth review of Xiaomi Mi A2. Its predecessor Xiaomi Mi A1 was without any doubt was a ground breaking a smartphone. It was the first phone that company launched with stock Android OS with little of Xiaomi apps and no MIUI skin.

Xiaomi Mi A2 is obviously different from Xiaomi Mi A1 but the question is how much. Well, we will tell you everything but before know some quick changes. Mi A2 comes out with a tall display but unfortunately it doesn’t sport the notch. Apart from it, it also doesn’t support microSD or even 3.5 mm audio jack.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Build and Design
No matter what the very first thing that attracts you towards the smartphone is its slim and attractive design you will even feel more better when you hold the phone in your hand. From the sides, it measures 7.3 mm.
Its rear look like any other smartphone with dual camera setup. As they are continuously launching smartphone back to back so it is much clear that they are not focusing much on design.
It has a metallic build that makes it bit slippery. If you don’t want it to slip it off from your hand then make sure to invest in a good grippy cover.
The fingerprint sensor is placed in the centre above that is ideal for unlocking your smartphone from your index finger. On the edges, Antenna lines are hidden neatly.
Its unibody metal design leads to a smooth transition from metal to glass from the front. Xiaomi has taken care of smoothness too much that’s the reason you will not find any sharp edges. Its USB Type-C is surrounded with speaker grilles.
Xiaomi Mi A2 top portion gets microphone and IR blaster and as above mentioned there is no 3.5 mm headphone jack. It might be compromised because of its sleekness.
Despite of slimness because of its the tall form factor, Mi A2 is not the one that is ideal for one hand use. Its display is protected with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 along side with an oleophobic coating which is currently the best technology in the market. It doesn’t get any IP certification so avoid it taking in pool or beach.

Under the hood, Xiaomi Mi A2 is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC which is an octa-core processor with one quad-core Kryo 260 cluster clocked at 2.2 GHz and another quad-core Kryo 260 cluster clocked at 1.8 GHz.

Rear cameras were powered with pixel binning an advance technology that improves the image quality in low light. Talking about aperture then its front camera comes with an aperture of f/2.2 while its rear cameras have f/1.75 larger aperture. Xiaomi Mi A2 Display
Xiaomi Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch tall FHD+ display that has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. It comes with a pixel density of 403 PPI. Xiaomi is beautifully managed to fit the IPS LCD panel inside the same factor that has been used in A1. It doesn’t follow the trend of the notch which might be a bit painful for you.
The display of Mi A2 is too dim. Switching to adaptive mode did not help either. Such a low luminosity on the display is a bit disappointing.
The sharpness level of the screen is pretty good and you may need to thanks to its IPS LCD panel. The viewing angle of the display too is great. Its brightness makes the games and videos more alive.
It screen gives you a natural colour viewing experience, no unnecessary saturation. The display is reflective but not at the level that distracts you. Overall display features of Xiaomi Mi A2 is great the only drawback that we feel is dim display.
Xiaomi Mi A2 OS and Software
Xiaomi Mi A2 runs on latest stock Android 8.1 OS with the 5 June 2018 security patch. Despite of having stock Android OS still, you will some pre-bundled apps from Xiaomi like Mi Store, Mi Drop, Mi Community, Feedback, File Manager. The best thing is you can uninstall them all apart from Feedback app.
If you are an earlier user of MIUI then you will miss some tweaking options in the Settings menu. There are enough gestures support too. One of those are double press the power button to launch the camera.
Xiaomi Mi A2 supports up to five fingerprints so it gives you maximum security. Because of its stock OS, there are no unnecessary animation freezes. Fortunately, most of the things run very smooth. You can switch between apps without any lag.
Xiaomi made its camera app bit different from default Google Camera app, they added features like Square mode, short video mode, portrait mode and more. There is no dedicated Gallery app in the smartphone so all photos can be seen on the Google Photos app.

Mi A2 is powered with Snapdragon 660 SoC that is paired with 4 GB RAM that ensures it functions smoothly. When we tried it we don’t face any issue related to performance.
The call quality of the Mi A2 is amazing and its earpiece speaker is loud enough to make a call in a crowded place. Its mono speaker is too loud. It is so loud that simple notifications act as an alarm.
As we have already mentioned that Xiaomi Mi A2 has not any 3.5 mm audio jack support it is bundled with USB Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter that works great with third-party earphones.
When performance is being discussed gaming always come to check the real performance. We have tries games like Asphalt 9: Legends which is quite a heavy game. The good news is it runs very smoothly even we have set the game as High Quality.
We were expecting a notable drop in frame rates but there was nothing that interrupts the gaming experience. Most of MI phones has a heating problem but while playing the game the phone get mildly warm that is appreciable.

The rear camera doesn’t have any optical zoom feature but company choose this because of ‘Smart Lens’ feature. This feature actually helps the smartphone to a device which camera need to use especially on ambient lighting situations.
Both rear cameras are integrated with wide f/1.75 aperture. When you click photos during daytime then 12 MP camera plays a major part while in low light situation 20 MP camera handles the situation.
