and services. According to the top research firm IHS iSuppli, Samsung overtakes Nokia to become
world’s top mobile phone brand for 2102. This is the first time in 14 years that Samsung displaces
wireless communication giant Nokia to become world’s top mobile phone brand for 2012 said
According to the research reports issued by IHS iSuppli, “In 2011, Samsung’s market share
account of worldwide Cell phone shipments was 24 percent but it is expected to be 29 percent
in the year 2012. On the other hand, Nokia market share account was 30 percent in 2011, but
in 2012 it will drop to 24 percent”. iSuppli reports also states that, Apple is at the third position
with 10 percent market share in 2012. In 2011, Apple’s market share was only 3 percent.

Wayne Lam, senior analyst at IHS said that “The competitive reality of the cell phone market
in 2012 was ‘live by Smartphone; die by the Smartphone’” With the advancement in the technology,
the market of Smartphone is going to improve their services and enhance the quality of the
products. The key factor that helps Samsung to become the world’s top mobile phone brand for
2012 is its “Android” operating system.
Why Samsung is world’s top mobile phone brand ?
The success of Samsung Smartphone’s is totally dependent on Android. Samsung Smartphone’s
powered by Android are the leading devices in America (US). Samsung’s Galaxy S III became
the world’s most selling Smartphone in 2012 (nearly 18 million sales). After this, Samsung reportedly
sold 5 million pieces of Galaxy Note II in year 2012. The success of Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and
all other low budget phones like Samsung Galaxy Y helps the company to become world’s top
mobile phone brand for 2012.
On the other hand, the transition of Nokia from Smartphone line to the Windows operating system
reduces its popularity and sales. Symbian based Nokia phones are unable to attract customers
