Samsung Galaxy S9 Full Review

No matter what camera of Samsung Galaxy S9 is the alone thing that attracts easily. The main USP of Galaxy S9 is camera and no can challenge it. Most of reviews you have read starts with the design but here we can’t resist ourself to start explaining about its camera and the best thing is there are too much to say about its camera that’s why we decided to kick start the review with its camera.

Samsung Galaxy S9 gets 12 MP primary camera that has an aperture of f/1.5. Feel happy to know that it is the brightest even on any smartphone. Its predecessor S8 was launched with something like power but the great thing is new one has 28% more powerful camera.

When it was launched company demonstrate its power by pointing the smartphone at a box full of flowers that lit at a lower light intensity than 0.87 to be precise or lux. It had been compared to the Google Pixel 2 XL camera.

Obviously, pictures clicked by Samsung Galaxy S9 are astonishing and impressive. The flowers looks very dark in Google Pixel 2 XL but surprisingly flower ewers clearly distinguishable in Galaxy S9. Apart from it colour retention and noise levels were good too.

Well, this was a demonstration by the company the real question is how it performs in a real world? Well, you will be glad to know that it will not disappoint you.

When we tried it in the real world it actually performs well in all situations then no matter whether it was a low light condition. It smartly manages to keep noise at bay and capture colour with uncanny vibrancy. Now there is no doubt how well it is able to capture photos in good light.

AR Emoji

Samsung boasts it very much but let us clear you at first that it is not what you are looking for. Having an AR Emoji in a smartphone sounds great but it is not definitely the one having in Samsung Galaxy S9.

Apple makes a buzz when the company launch Animoji along with iPhone X that generated Emoji by using its TrueDepth camera. Samsung tried the same but if you have ever got a chance to use both AR Emoji then you will feel Samsung’s one like a watered down version of Apple’s Animoji. In Galaxy S9 you need to smile into front camera to create your own AR Emoji.

Once created you change its skin color, hair, and outfits. That’s it there are no more customization options. The other irritating thing is it is not able to generate a perfect avatar in one go. It has some glitches that will turn the avatar’s into wired one.

The Return of the Bixby

If you have been a Bixby lover then you will be glad to know that after a huge gap Bixby is back with Samsung Galaxy S9.

Though Bixby was also featured in S8 but still we choose to say a comeback after huge gap because it disappointed us all in S8. Company promised that it is ultimate digital assistant but is was not. It wasn’t able to control or start apps, work out contextually wahat you want, and more.

Samsung worked a lot on Bixby and launched on Galaxy S9. It gets better at the level of Siri but to reach the level of Google Assistant there is long way to cover up. So where is Bixby is ahead of Siri, Alexa, Google Now etc.

Well Bixby is much advanced when it comes to seeing. It is able to fetch exact result from web for things like nature scenes, comics, lamps, apparels etc.

Improved Biometrics

If you are currently using Galaxy S8 or you have read an review of it then obviously you know how poor its biometric unlocking feature it. It makes the smartphone almost unusable. Iris scanner is unreliable, facial recognition is poor, fingerprint scanner was too hard to reach.

Iris scanner, facial recognition, and fingerprint sensor are the three major parts of S8. This time they didn’t take any change and come with a refined technology.

Iris scanner is integrated with Intelligent Scan that makes the things bit easier. Now one can unlock the phone even from far distance. No need to say that fingerprint scanner is also improved.

Iris scanner needs more improvement specially when it comes to low light, in this department Apple’s Face ID totally destroys the Samsung Galaxy S9.

New Speakers

Samsung Galaxy S9 is pakced with AKG tuned new speaker that’s sound is loud. If you are tired of hearing sounds from bottom of your smartphone then you will really appreciate the placement of Samsung Galaxy S9’s speaker.

These speakers are packed with Dolby Atmos sound that gives you a sense of space. It will provide you a decent sound experience.

Verdict

Samsung Galaxy S9 is no doubt an impressive smartphone and also one of the best smartphones of 2018 but what it disappoints you is its upgrades. Yes it biggest competitor is its predecessor Galaxy S8 and when we compared it with we feel nothing great. Yes if you see it individually then you might love this smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S8 was a great phone as it launched after overcoming many drawbacks of Galaxy S7. Same was expected with Galaxy S9 but unfortunately, it disappoint all of us. Galaxy S8 is still on sale and no doubt a wise customer will never choose the costly S9 over S8.

If you are still in confusion even after reading the full review then you might be luring towards S9 as it is freshly launched and has some decent upgrades. Well, it is totally your decision. We still recommend you to go with S8 especially if you don’t want to waste your money for some extra upgrades.
